The Belgian Blue Essay - 1568 Words

The Belgian Blue is a heavily muscled cow breed that has been established through selective breeding. It’s mainly bred for the purpose of its beef production and due to it’s lean meat, it’s become popular in some parts of Europe. Hyperplasia, also known as double muscling’ occurs in belgian blue cows resulting in its heavily muscled build. Is a term for an â€Å"abnormal increase in volume of a tissue or organ caused by the formation and growth of new normal cells† (hyperplasia, 2016); so it’s the increase of the amount of muscle fibres, rather than the enlargement of each individual muscle fibers (hypertrophy). (Hyperplasia, 2016) This is caused by a mutation the myostatin gene which is responsible to suppress muscle growth so that it doesn’t grow too large. So the mutation results in a more developed muscle compared to other cow breeds. This mutated gene is also a heritable characteristic which means it can be passed on to the next generation of offspring. The selective breeding of the Belgian Blue began in the 19th century in Belgium when they bred a local cow breed with a shorthorn cattle from the UK. From there, each generation reproduction was very strictly controlled so that cows with the most muscle mass can mate. This results in an increase of the amounts of desired characteristics such as a more developed muscles in the gene pool of the next generation. Post Colonial Theory- Extended Definition Essay free essay sample

Theory- Extended Definition Essay During the late twentieth century, many literary critics had an important focus on understanding cultural power. They began investigating a more multicultural canon, and discovered the lack of perspectives from the formerly colonized people on European colonization. European colonialism was centered on racial inferiority and extreme otherness. In history the colonized people are seen as the losers and the colonizers are the winners. Postcolonial critics are trying to restore the culture, dignity, identities, and history of the colonized. Colonizers believed they were sophisticated, civilized, and metropolitan. They defined the colonized people as being savage, backward, and undeveloped. Furthermore Europeans believed their culture was highly advanced and they tried to implement stereotypes against the colonized people. Postcolonial theory assumes that the colonized people are being treated as the Other. Postcolonial theory examines how the colonized people are voiceless and how they are inferior to the colonizers. Postcolonial critics are mainly concerned with literature written in the Anglo-European culture often distorts the experiences of the colonized people, and attempts to articulate more pride in the face of colonization. Postcolonial theory focuses on conveying the complete story of colonization specifically by Europeans, rather than blaming them for their wrong doings in history. Postcolonial theory states that Anglo-European countries created the dominant ideology that served to â€Å"other† the colonized people by making the same them seem inferior and dependent. Postcolonial critics question the legacy of Western influence in their colonized countries because of the negative aspects of discrimination towards the natives. In the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, the white missionaries created division within the most basic element of Ibo society, their religion and made it easier for them to establish themselves and their government in Umuofia. When the missionaries arrived in Mbanta the village people gathered around them and the white man said â€Å"All the gods you have named are not gods at all† (146). The white man is claiming that the Umuofians worship false gods and they are nothing at all. Their religion was the foundation of their society and kept them together with a strong faith. The Christians argue that the village people are ignorant because he states that their gods are merely â€Å"pieces of wood and stone† (146). The white man’s words are significant because he emphasizes that their society is based on false gods made out of wood and stone. His words also indicate that since their gods are made by stone and wood, they are completely harmless and cannot do anything to stop the missionaries. The goal of their early colonization is to tear apart the fundamental reason that keeps the Ibo society together, which is their religion and strong faith in their ancestors. Therefore they can control the natives easily because they are not united, and implement their religion and culture. The white man continues with his speech and states â€Å"They are gods of deceit who tell you to kill your fellows and destroy innocent children† (146). The white man is making a statement accusing the natives of being savages that go through life killing each other. The natives are undeveloped because they have un-human like traditions and customs. The white man is making a crucial statement to the village people that they are significantly different and have worthless gods, traditions, and customs. In other words the white men believe in the master narrative that he is superior and has the right to colonize them. European colonizers used extreme othering through criticizing their religious beliefs and attacking their traditional beliefs in order to successfully colonize â€Å"the Other†. Upon Okonkwo’s return to Umuofia he talked to Obierika on the presence of the Christian people and he says â€Å"Our clan can no longer act like one† (176). Okonkwo believes that the tribe’s foundations have been broken down by the Christian religion. He believes that his people no longer have a strong faith in their gods. Therefore the village people have now come out of their ignorance and joined the white man’s religion and government. Okonkwo then says â€Å"He has put a knife on the things that held us together and we have fallen apart† (176). When the tribe has fallen apart and the missionaries have successfully created a separation that has made it easier for them to govern the people, colonization has fully begun. The white men haved caused to fall apart because they are more clever and advanced mentally and technologically than the natives. Since the tribe can no longer protect their way of life, the white man will enforce his own way of life on the people. Later in the story the tribe leaders are arrested by the District Commissioner, he states clearly â€Å"That must not happen in the dominion of our queen, the most powerful ruler in the world† (194). The white man have fully established their government, making it the sole power in Umuofia and the most powerful. The tribes’ laws have no significance at this point and the Christians are now using their fatherland’s laws. The white men are taking advantage of the natives and the colonized people are not powerful enough to fight back against the colonizers. Postcolonial critics have seen a continuous pattern in history that shows the struggle of the colonized people to fight back against oppression. Postcolonial theory looks at how Anglo- European powers oppressed the colonized people by not giving them the power to define and rule themselves. During Okonkwo’s exile Umuofia changed drastically, the white men â€Å"built a court where the District Commissioner judged cases of ignorance† (174). The missionaries began with trying to spread Christianity and then slowly established their judicial system. The significance of building a court is that the laws favored the white man and not the natives. The natives are put in an inferior position because they cannot defeat the power of the white man and are forced to follow their rules. The white men are allowed to use the laws of their fatherland while the natives are being oppressed which does not allow them the same. When the village people gathered in the market to discuss what to do with the white man, the court messengers interrupt and say â€Å"The white man whose power you know to well has ordered this meeting to stop† (204). Part of people being able to define themselves is having freedom of speech. The natives wanted to lash out against colonization in their own private meeting. History has shown that when the colonized people are organized and ready to rebel against the colonizers, they become weaker and outnumbered. The white men are taking a given right away from the colonized people, which is a major part of oppression. By not allowing the natives to have the power to rule themselves, the white man can successfully colonize and stay in their superior position. Postcolonial critics are concerned that literature written in the colonizing cultures often distorts the realities and experiences of the colonized. To conclude the book the District Commissioner is thinking about writing a book on African tribes and including a paragraph about Okonkwo, he says â€Å"There was so much else to include, and one must be firm in cutting details† (209). His intentions were to talk about Okonkwo as a coward and a fool who hanged himself. This would be leaving out the most significant details about Okonkwo who was a fierce man, highly praised, elite, and one of the greatest men in Umuofia. By leaving those essential details this would be creating an incomplete identity of the man Okonkwo. Okonkwo killed himself because of the oppression by the white man and how colonization ruined his great tribe, brothers, and home. The District Commissioner’s book The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Lower Niger would be distorting the significant legacy of the great man Okonkwo. Chimamanda Adichie said in her TED talk on the danger of a single story that we risk a critical misunderstanding. In other words if we accept the single story of the colonized, the consequences are that we are robbed of our dignity and we fall for these stereotypes. The single story creates a one-sided perspective that all colonized people are savage, undeveloped, and inferior to the dominant white race. This story has transformed history and has given people a false story. If people reject the single story and realize that the single story is incomplete, there will no longer be any false views of a certain of a group people. Postcolonial theory is not intended to make the colonizers feel bad, rather states the complete story. Critics are trying to change the master narrative and are concerned with rewriting the wrong doings towards the colonized people. The goal is to balance perspectives from both sides in order to have a fair and just story on colonization. The African proverb â€Å"Until the lion tell his side of the story, the tale will always glorify the hunter† examines how the history and culture of the Africans that are told by Africans is non-existent in history. The colonized people do not have their stories told because they were passed down orally from generation to generation. Therefore the victors of European colonization who are the colonizers have created their own perspective on Africans and implemented it into history. Postcolonial theory overlooks their perspective and digs deep into the true realities, experiences, and stories of the colonized people. Postcolonial Theory focuses on correcting the dominant ideology that the colonized people are the â€Å"Other†, how they do not have the power to define themselves, and how European literature distorts the experiences of the colonized. The purpose of postcolonial theory it to recover the lost history, dignity, validity, cultural contributions of the people colonized by Europeans. For example in Things Fall Apart, Achebe details the strife and devastation that happened when the British colonizers began settling in Umuofia. He points out the negative aspects thats caused shifting identity and culture of the Umuofians, which was caused by the oppressing white men that imposed their western religion on the people. Postcolonial criticism question the role of western cultures and religions in â€Å"third world countries† with people that are seen as undeveloped and inferior. They question the single story against the colonized that has been represented in European literature throughout history. History is always written by the victors, and in most cases it is the colonizers. Due to the â€Å"othering† of the colonized people by the Europeans, postcolonial theory works to recover their lost voices, establish equality, and bring justice to them.

The lone true option available is to be every bit healthy as you can. regardless of your weight. ( Often times the wellness issue serves as a fume screen to warrant denying fat people their civil rights. The intension of being sexy is the skinny-modeled typed for a miss and a hunk-type with perfect for male childs. Subjects about. diet. fittingness. fleshiness. weight control and the likes which are ever discussed in magazines are being overused now. I’ve known so many fat people who have made legion attempts and exhausted 1000s of dollars throughout their lives merely to lose weight and each clip regained the lost lbs plus a few more. The world is that fleshiness is like a â€Å"yo-yo phenomenon† . It is truly difficult to accomplish a lasting weight loss. If this happen to person who is seekin g to lose weight adequate times they will be dying at the chance of losing weight for fright of deriving back more than you lose. Peoples who experienced things like this will be disappointed and go hopeless so they will halt and merely make what they want and this will truly do them genuinely happy. Though Michael Fumento is right of stating that fleshiness is damaging to wellness but a individual is the 1 doing a pick for their ain lives. They should non be pressured on what sort of form of organic structure they should possess. â€Å"The difference [ between fat and thin people ] is non between the weak and the strong or the unprompted and the abstemious. but between internal ( rather likely innate ) controls that are set otherwise in different people† quoted by Kelly D. Strategic Management Example Strategic Management – Coursework Example STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT Cost Leadership Strategies Cost leadership entails standardization by reducing costs. On the other hand, Strategic management enhances low-cost production for given levels of quality since the low-cost leadership targets broad markets (Peny 2013, p.45). The three primary cost leadership strategies used include competitive advantage strategy, differentiation strategy and focus strategy in the management of businesses and organizations (Hill, Jones & Schilling 2014, p.33). The essay focuses on BHP Billiton strategic report 2014, based the analysis of the three cost leadership strategies in the management of BHP Billiton Company. Consequently, in strategic management of cost leadership, only rare and valuable resources can be sources of competitive advantage (Porter 2010, p.2). In BHP Billiton Company, their ability to profitably transport their petroleum and minerals as valuable resources incorporate their competitive advantage strategy under cost leadership. Besid es, oil and minerals from BHP Billiton Company are rare and precious resources that enable standardization of costs hence incorporating competitive advantage in cost leadership management. Differentiation strategy entails the development of services and products that offer unique attributes (Barney 2001, p.41). The development of services and outputs allows for cost leadership by controlling costs of goods and services. In BHP Billiton Company, development of goods and services is through distribution and selling of products with regulation of financial risks associated with revenue in Market. Therefore, differentiation is a form of cost leadership that assists in the sale of products and services in the market Additionally, focus strategy narrows on a particular segment of cost leadership to achieve cost differentiation and advantage (Hitt, Ireland & Hoskisson 2014, p.22). But via LinkedIn, I’ve gotten more insight into classmates I never even knew existed, and can see how our careers fit together, even if we never crossed paths back on campus.Special SkillsThis is a great place to showcase skills that you’ve picked up along the way, even if you don’t use them in your current position. This section also allows your connections to weigh in and â€Å"endorse† you, showing how awesome you are at said skills.ExperienceThis is the longer version of your headline, including context information that you want potential employers to see. You don’t need to go into every responsibility you’ve had at every job, but you have 2000 characters to create a pretty solid collection of your greatest hits.Your profile should look and read professional, but that doesn’t mean you can’t let your personality shine through. Witty and clever is good- but again, don’t go overboard. You want someone to be a ble to â€Å"get† you at a glance, not just your summary of accomplishments.2. Get InvolvedOnce you’ve set up your profile, don’t just walk away and wait for people and opportunities to come to you. Be a good community member- that means looking for connections, endorsing others, and interacting with others as much as possible on the platform. It shows that you’re engaged and personable. If you join groups in LinkedIn, that lets you send messages directly to second- and third-degree connections, so this is a very useful tool to have.3. Know What to Leave OutSpambots love public social media profiles, so don’t post your personal email address in any of the public fields unless you want to be weeding out weird spam messages for the rest of eternity. Anyone who reads your profile and wants to get in touch via the LinkedIn platform can do it without having MeMyselfAndI95@hotmail.com in the headline. You want your LinkedIn profile to be complete, but you don’t need to go overboard.Your LinkedIn profile doesn’t have to march in lockstep with your other profiles and job search materials. For example, your resume and your LinkedIn profile should be a bit different.4. Build Your Rep In Your FieldWhile you’re off being a good LinkedIn citizen and recommending people in your network, also work on answering questions in your field (assuming you know the answers- don’t make stuff up just for the sake of getting your name out there, because you also don’t want to undermine your professional credibility). Answering questions helps get your name out in your industry’s circles. And who knows- maybe something you post will go LinkedIn viral, and you’ll gain exposure to people in your field that you wouldn’t otherwise have been able to reach.5. Keep It CurrentUpdate your status daily, if you can- or at the very least, a few times a week. The key to LinkedIn success is engaging with the plat form as much as you can, so that you’re maximizing your information and your connections. When you update, don’t default to things like â€Å"here are my thoughts on this political thing,† or â€Å"here’s what I’m doing for dinner tonight.† Post an update that’s relevant to your work or your skills, so that your target market sees you’re committed to your professional brand. For example: â€Å"Just attended a great webinar on productivity, and am excited to try out Steve’s 4 Steps to Productive Greatness.†6. Use KeywordsThis is especially helpful in your â€Å"Skills† section. If your industry has a very specific set of skills, make sure you list them- that is, if you actually have them. It would be pretty easy to disprove that you’re not fluent in Italian and Swahili, no matter what your LinkedIn profile says. If you’re looking for a job in social media, make sure you’re listing all th e platforms you’re familiar with, and keep the section updated as new ones come out.7. Work Your LinkedIn Profile Into Your Application PackageLinkedIn has the potential to be a more dynamic tool than, say, your resume. Once you hit â€Å"send† on your resume or print it out for an interview, that’s it. No changes for this particular job application. But if you include your LinkedIn profile URL (remember that personalized URL we talked about?) with your contact info on your resume header, then your reader can go and find out all the wonderful extra information about you, your experience, and your skills beyond what fits in the short-and-sweet resume version.8. Spy On YourselfIf you use the LinkedIn app, you can search anonymously, but still see who’s been reading your profile. So if you can see that someone from XYZ company was interested in your profile, you can add some custom keywords, skills, or information to better appeal.9. Save Your SearchesLinked In has a â€Å"save searches† function, which can help you keep track of specific job keywords or listings that you’re interested in seeing. You can also set up alerts that let you know when these keywords pop up, so that you’re not obsessively reviewing your searches all the time (unless, of course, you want to).No matter how you look at it, LinkedIn has the potential to be an MVP in your job search. You get to decide how much (or how little) you want to interact with it, but the more you use it to your advantage, the more rewards you’ll get from the platform and the people and companies who rely on it to find great people for open jobs. Good luck, and happy linking!

In Whose Jurisdiction Is the Creation of a Judicial Precedent Assignment

In Whose Jurisdiction Is the Creation of a Judicial Precedent - Assignment Example Delegated legislation refers to laws made by a body or an entity other than the parliament. The body must, however, derive its legislative authority from parliament through an act of parliament known as parent act. An example of a delegated legislation is a set of city bylaws formulated by local authorities. The local authorities are authorized by parliament to make bylaws for regulations in their council’s jurisdictions. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the judicial structure. Its functions include hearing appellate cases from the court of appeal. Its jurisdiction also extends to appeals from the high court and covers both civil and criminal cases. The golden rule is a statutory interpretation rule in which the courts deviate from the literal meaning of words of a statute to ensure that the interpretation of the statute is reasonable and consistent. The case of Lewis v Hilaire et al 1970 15 WIR 192 is an example of an application of the golden rule. A directive is an order from an international body to its member countries requiring the members to adjust their domestic laws. Working time directive is an example of a directive from the European Union. Advantages and disadvantages of lawmaking through Westminster parliament. Legislations made through the Westminster parliament, the parliamentary system that exists in Britain has a number of advantages. The parliament’s House of Commons is composed of elected members from all parts of the country, a feature that makes its legislative process representative of the people’s opinions. This makes parliamentary legislation a democratic process because it gives people an opportunity to making lawmaking. The sources of parliamentary legislation, which include bills from members of parliament also mean that citizens have an avenue of instituting legislations through their members of parliament in private member bills. Similarly, citizen’s opinions can be used to draft ‘government-sponsored’ bills. Parliamentary legislation is, therefore, a democratic process.

Corporate governance, reporting and regulation Essay

Corporate governance, reporting and regulation - Essay Example independent directors are also appointed in order to have some added benefits in terms of additional knowledge and experience which would be useful for achieving better results by the company. There has always been a debate about the relevance of the independent directors in improving the performance of the company. This project is an attempt to identify and analyse the relevance of the independent directors in improving the organisational performance. The paper discusses the extent to which the appointment of independent director can influence the performance of the company and whether the independent director can improve the performance of the company or not. The meaning and the reasons behind the appointment of the independent directors have been studied and discussed in order to have an idea about the independent directors moreover the role and responsibilities of the independent directors have also been analysed to assess the independent director’s scope in improving the organisational performance. The executive directors are employed by the company therefore the company has a control over them. The concept of the independent director came from the thought of having someone in the board who would think only for the betterment of the company without being influenced by someone. Thus the decisions taken by such person would be unbiased and free of any personal interest. Hence the independent director would be someone who cannot be controlled by the company or its management and could not interfere in the work of the independent director. Hence an independent is a director who was not an employee of the company or any of the related party of the company in the last five years. The independent director should not be the company’s advisor or should not have any contract of personal service where the company or any of its related members is a party to such contract. The independent director should not be related to any non-profit organisation to which the

Beauty Myth Essay Example for Free

Beauty Myth Essay The beauty myth, how what others perceive as what beauty is can, will be and has been used against women. Advertising agencies and Hollywood are portraying to young girls and women that youth, beauty and love go together to make a complete and happy existence in life. From reality television shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras, to youth clothing stores such as Justice, and Dove beauty ads geared toward women of all ages the portrayal of having to be pretty is everywhere you look. Toddlers and Tiaras is a reality television show of the behind the scenes events of child beauty pageants. The children on the show are spray tanned, wear makeup, and wear fake hair. And the thing that baffles me most about all of this is that the children are all under the age of 7. I don’t know of anyone that doesn’t remember what happened to Jon Benet who was a child beauty queen but yet there are still hundreds of parents that a dress up their children like little dolls and put them on national television for the world to see. These little kids are being told to be more beautiful or for the boys to be more handsome, and to excel at their looks at such a young age when the focus should be on teaching them fundamentals of life and to love themselves as they are. The picture above is from the show’s website on TLC online. All of the little girls are so beautiful before and look absolutely ridiculous after they are all done up. This type of show has made me shy away from watching anything of TLC because I don’t want to support a company that will exploit children in that way. TLC also has a spinoff of one of the contestants that is too old for the Toddlers and Tiaras show and she has her own show now called Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo. It is yet another show that I will not watch because it makes me angry not only towards the station but also towards the parents of all of these children. On a more personal note, I recently went shopping for my goddaughter who turned 6 years old. I went shopping for clothes for her and she is the first little girl that I have shopped for in the last ten years so it amazed me how hard it was to find clothes for her that seemed age appropriate. A lot of the stores I went to, Justice included, had very few clothes that didn’t resemble those of clothing you would find in the juniors or adult sections also. My goddaughter is a little girl who is a tomboy and she doesn’t like a lot of the clothes that are covered in glitter and words, but she is also getting older and doesn’t always want to wear the t-shirts with cartoon characters on them either. It makes me wonder what little girls clothes will look like when I have children. I would want them to look like little kids, not little kids playing dress up. Advertising agencies aren’t much better than stores, marketing, and television. My recent experiences watching television commercials and ads on you tube led me to the Dove website. There is a link on the website with their social mission, it is: Anxiety about beauty begins at an early age, and can even keep girls from doing what they love. You can change that with a conversation. Reach out to the girl in your life and talk to her about beauty, confidence and self-esteem. There is a lot about this statement that I like, and I would like it all if I had not previously seen Dove ads on you tube and television on the â€Å"evolution of beauty†. In a sixty second ad they change a plain, pretty girl into an exquisitely beautiful one with her hair done and makeup on. The mission statement on the Dove website is great; everything they say in it is spot on for young girls and even young men. But they should state that beauty comes in all forms. So many young people are trying to alter their appearances with makeup and jewelry and various hairstyles and hair colors; they need to also be told that natural is beautiful too. These days you can’t turn on the television or even the radio without hearing and seeing ads for laser hair removal or lasik eye surgery to eliminate glasses, all things that have been made to be seen as unbecoming in the looks department. In the past there was a television reality show called â€Å"The Swan† which was a makeover show where they take a woman or man that is seen as â€Å"ugly† in society and change their appearance so drastically that they are almost unrecognizable to their friends and family. Other reality television shows that I can think of off the top of my head are â€Å"What Not to Wear†, â€Å"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy† and â€Å"Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition†. So many shows that basically start with telling people how ugly they are personally or even just the clothes they choose to wear make them ugly. It all reminds me of a quote that I heard a lot growing up and that is â€Å"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder†. Just because what I think is pretty someone else may not, does not make it ugly and vice versa.

The Virgin and The Gipsy Written by D.H. Lawrence Essays -- Virgin Gip

The Virgin and The Gipsy Written by D.H. Lawrence This novel is very intriguing and teaches lessons of morality, religion, and of life and death intended for those with imagination and insight. The author's style contributes deeply to the intrigue and true meaning to this novel. The author's use of imagery makes tensions in the story vivid and emphatic. In this story there is a re-occurring tension between religion and desire. The tension between religion and desire is most clearly demonstrated between the characters of Yvette and the rector. Yvette was brought up in a world of religious conventions and beliefs, an environment of forgiveness, love, and morality. This world is later realized to truly be a world of repression towards all feelings of passion and desire; not the environment of forgiveness, love, and morality Yvette and the readers are lead to believe. This starts the conflict between religion and desire, and confuses Yvette greatly because her religious upbringing denies and contradicts all her natural instincts of love, passion, and sexuality. The rector and Yvette do not share the same understanding of love. They are both very different in their thoughts and expressions, of what love is. The narrator in the story tells us what the rector thinks of Cynthia, his lost wife. He describes her as 'the pure white snow-flower'; (p.6) and expresses that her husband thought of her 'on inaccessible heights†¦that she was throned in lone splendor aloft their lives, never to be touched'; (p.7) This would have the reader believe that Cynthia is considered in the rector's eyes to be like god not bodily in his life. At another point in the novel the narrator informs the reader that the rector believes Cynthia to be sacred and that she was enshrined in his heart, as if she were a religious idol, never simply expressing any love or desire for his lost wife. It's like the rector has moral religious love for his lost wife, and not passion or desire, like the love Yvette feels for the gypsy. When Yvette matures and realizes that she feels differently than her family, she undergoes a change in her heart, and attitude. Yvette's father picks up on her chan ge and resents her for it because the rector wishes Yvette to be pure and clean like him, or her sister Lucille who turned out the way the rector intended. Therefore not expressing or experiencing true l... ...der that the truth will set you free, and lead you into making the right decisions. The flood is a symbol of re-birth, the flood wiped out the dark, dull stone house, and giving Yvette a second chance at the life she wishes to pursue. The characters are a very important role in the novel and are very diversified. Each character is unique and opinionated which adds contrast and intrigue. Cynthia left her husband for another man, but in her husband's eyes is still considered as pure. The rector is an odd man. Even though his wife left him for another man, he worships her as if she were his god. Perhaps this emphasizes his feelings and beliefs towards her, which are holy and without desire. He does not know the meaning of love, or desire so the reader is lead to believe that his beliefs of holiness, and of purity are his means of recognizing love. This novel was very symbolic and had an extensive vocabulary. It was very intriguing and kept the reader's interest throughout the whole novel. I would recommend this novel to anyone who would like an exercise for his or her mind. There is a lot of insight needed to interpret this novel, but the challenge only adds to the intrigue.

How does Alton Towers Monitor Customer Service Essay

Alton towers is an industry that offers products and services that are similar to its competitors, they need to continually monitor and asses their levels of customer service, and improve areas so that they can exceed customer expectations. To have a high level of customer service the organisation first needs to identify its aims and objectives this might come in the form of a mission statement. Alton towers mission statement is ‘we create magic moments’ this appeals to people of all ages, and different groups of people, what people look for when they go to Alton towers. Like many other businesses and services it is vital to keep customers happy regardless weather they are old or new, this will encourage them to revisit the attraction. People from different back grounds and ages Price or value for money Alton towers costs à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½23.00 for one adult ticket, so when you purchase the ticket you expect to get value for money which is different for different people, one persons value for money might be fun for the whole family (adults, children and teenagers) another persons value for money might be to visit every ride in the theme park twice. So Alton towers needs to take in consideration that everyone’s value for money is different but cannot lower there prices to low due to competitive organisations and the annual funding needed to keep the park open, so what Alton towers have done is printed off booklets informing people of the prices and opening times of the theme park, height restrictions on rides seasonal times (the time of year that the park is most popular) online information and website from this booklet people can see. When to visit, what time to visit, how much they are going to pay and what rides they can/can’t go on and see if Alton towers offers better value for money than Drayton manor park. Consistency and accuracy of the park If customer receive a good amount of customer service while at Alton towers and this continues each time it encourages people to revisit again and again, Alton towers is forever trying to improve its standard of customer service and rides to make it more enjoyable for people, they are now trying to improve the waiting lines so that rides are easier to access and the lines go down quicker. Accessibility Alton towers have a very good accessibility due to the high amounts of people arriving and departing from the park. Alton towers has increased there car parks so that they can now hold up to 50,000 vehicles a day if the accessibility is bad then customers will assume that it is like this all around the park, there are also ramps to help people who cannot walk up steps or are in a wheelchair, rides also let wheel chair users access the ride from the exits which are also ramped so that access is more easier. Reliability If Alton towers is unreliable then people are influenced to try another theme park. But Alton towers is not unreliable this is what attracts customers to come back, they keep there internet and brochures up-to-date and let customers know what is going on around the park this is reliable because if they where closed one day and they didn’t advertise it lots of people would still turn up at the theme park expecting to get in. Staff At Alton towers they employ the best staff that are trained to deal with the high expected levels of customer service, staff all where a uniform this to ensure that they remain clean and recognized Alton towers also employs over 1500 members of staff and they are all divided to work over different areas of the park to help with customers In busy periods e.g. over the summer Alton towers employs more ‘casual staff’ that can handle high amounts of customers and that can deal with them in an appropriate manner Health and safety If the health and safety of the park is poor the customers will not visit again but if the high standards are noticeable then they will enjoy there visit a lot more, at Alton towers rides have regular maintenance checks and are run in the morning before the park opens to ensure that there are no faults. Cleanliness and hygiene The cleanliness and hygiene standards of Alton towers is essential if the park looks unclean this gives a really bad first impression when the customer see it , the park has been given hundreds of bins, there are also designated litter pickers that patrol the park every 15 minutes, toilets that are all around the park are monitored every 40 minutes to ensure they remain clean and tidy. Enjoyment The main objective at Alton towers is to make everyone’s day (who visits the park) is to make is as enjoyable as possible, they do this by trying to get lines and queues down as quick as possible, offering people fast track system so the can skip the queues, more fast food restaurants are being introduced this will help to the long queue’s that

First time in a barber shop Essay

If you’ve never been to a barber shop before, the experience can be quite different from a hair salon or a discount haircut chain. Unlike more upscale hair salons, most barber shops offer quality haircuts at affordable prices; usually, you can plan to pay somewhere around $10-$15 for a haircut (give or take a few dollars, depending on the locale). While most salons and haircut chains do not offer facial shaves, many barber shops routinely offer shaves, often including warm lather and sometimes a hot face towel. A few barber shops may request that you make an appointment before you visit, but most shops operate on a â€Å"first-come, first-served† basis. When you enter a first-come, first-served shop, take note of who was already waiting ahead of you, and keep a mental note of your place in the order as new people enter, so you’ll know when it is your turn. (Newer shops may use sign-in lists to minimize confusion. ) It is customary when you’ve entered an unfamiliar shop to take the next available barber when your turn has come up. However, once you have established a relationship with a particular barber in a shop, it is perfectly acceptable to wait for that barber when your turn comes up. For example, if it is your turn to get a cut, but your favorite barber, Sam, is still cutting another guy’s hair, you can simply say, â€Å"I’m going to wait for Sam. † Unless someone else who was ahead of you is also waiting for Sam, you’ll be next in his chair. Once seated in his or her chair, your barber will ask a few questions about how you would like your hair cut, at least until getting to know your preferences and style. He or she may ask when your last haircut was, whether you wish to simply trim the style you currently have, whether you would like a blocked or tapered neckline (details below), if you would like your sideburns trimmed, if you would like a part in your hair, if you want your neck shaved, if you would like your beard trimmed, if you’d like a full shave, and so on. If you request a very short cut, your barber may ask if you know the clipper blade number that you prefer. Keep in mind that different clipper manufacturers may use slightly different numbering systems for their blades and attachments (more on clippers below). If you have a specific, traditional style in mind (such as a crew cut or a butch), feel free to request it, but understand that these styles can be interpreted slightly differently from barber to barber. It may be wise to describe specific details you are looking for until you and your barber become more familiar with one another. Unless your hair is very dirty, most barbers will not shampoo your hair before cutting. Depending on the preference of the barber, he or she may use clippers or shears (haircutting scissors) to cut your hair; one is not necessarily better than the other, as they are both means to an end. Your barber may use warm lather and a straight razor to clean up the outlines of your cut around the ears and neck. Payment is usually given directly to the barber who cut your hair at the end of the cut, and tipping is customary (between 15-20% is appropriate for most areas of the country).

Species During the Formation of Earth essays

Species During the Formation of Earth essays Earth has went through lots of changes ,in species, from there just being algi and eboli to there being massive dinosaurs. The earths time is set up in to different periods they are; the Cambrian period, Ordovician period, Silurian period,Devonianperiod,Carboniferous period, Permian period, Mesozoic Era, the Triassic period, Cretaceous period, and the Jurassic period. In all of these periods there is something different about wildlife The Cambrian is the first I want to talk about . It is called that because some of the first fossils were foung in Cambria. It is named that because there were called the Ordovices.during this period animals began to appearlisuch as graptolites.also, larger animals like cephalopods, starfish, and scorpions. The Silurian period was also named after a group of people, the siluries.this was a short period but Sea lilies were getting bigger. Plan:  How will you create your content  and with what resources? Execute:  Create your content. Monitor and control:  Identify and remove any  roadblocks that are preventing you from executing. Close:  Get approval, publish, and review. That is the approach  traditional project managers learn about as they get started. However, there's a way to layer in another proven project management method to help you move through the phases  even faster.  It's called agile product  management. So, for the sake of this post, you're going to combine traditional project management and agile product  management together to create marketing projects more efficiently than ever before. Here's your definition: Marketing project management is the efficient process that helps you organize, create, and publish your content as fast as possible. The beautiful thing is that you can use this process for planning any type of content- and you should. Let's get into the details: Initiate Your Marketing Project By Defining  The Purpose Step 1: Choose The Highest Priority Project From  Your  Marketing Project Backlog Part of the agile project management process involves creating and maintaining a product backlog. For your  purposes, that's a fancy definition for a prioritized list of marketing projects. Project management starts by strategically choosing  to complete the highest priority project on your list. Since that's the case, we wrote an entire post to help you create your own marketing project backlog: Recommended Reading: The 1-Day Marketing Planning Process To Organize Your Next 6 Months What you're reading right now assumes that you've chosen one project  and that it's your highest priority for 10x growth. Step 2: Explain  The Project Background With A Creative Brief You may  already have detailed notes  from your marketing project backlog to help you implement your biggest priority project. If not, there are a handful of things to get straight before you get too much deeper: Who will this project benefit the most? Pinpoint  a subset within your audience. What do you need to create?  Define the end deliverable. Why will this project  benefit the audience you've specified? Write your value proposition  that answers your audience's  question, "What's in it for me?" What kind of resources might you need to  complete the project? Estimate the time and tools involved. What does done look like? Help your team know  what you'll accept as a successful final product. The background will serve as the foundation for all of the remaining steps in your project management process. As you write your creative brief  to answer these questions, you'll immediately be able to spot areas of potential challenges that you can work to resolve now- before your team starts executing the project. For example, if you need a developer's help to create a landing page or don't have a budget to complete the work, now is the time  to solve the roadblock before slowing up your entire team as they take on the project. Recommended Reading: How to Build a Concise Creative Brief Step 3: Define Your Project's Requirements To Fulfill The Business' Needs Requirements are the standards your content needs to meet before you publish. Every marketing project may  need different requirements, yet some examples to help you brainstorm your project's requirements should include: Automation: Is this a way to automate  a part of this project to prevent manual work during execution or afterward? Anything to cut out  unnecessary, tedious manual work a robot could do will immediately boost your productivity. Elimination: Can this project eliminate something else you're doing as a new and improved replacement? Removing work from your future to-do list will help you find time to execute  even more projects from your backlog a whole lot faster. Maintenance: How can you make this project as successful as possible now with the least amount of daily, weekly, or monthly maintenance? Think 10x  growth now that continues to provide long-term results without having to touch it. All of those may sound similar. But let that advice soak in a bit more as you look at your project idea and break down what you want it to do to benefit your team and business. If you can create requirements based on those three fundamentals, you will save you and your team time during and after  project execution. And when you don't have time to spare, that matters a lot. When you don't have time to spare, solid #ProjectManagement matters a lot.Another way to look at this  is by defining a set of  requirements your content must meet before you publish. For example, we've analyzed data to help us define standards of performance for our content. These standards literally help us predict how successful the content we execute will be based on four requirements: Topic: Is the topic similar to your other top-performing content? Is  the angle something your audience deeply cares about? Keyword:  Does the  main keyword have high search volume and low competition? Is there an opportunity to include latent semantic indexing to  help even more of your audience naturally find this content through search engines? Research: How can you  include deep research in this content to publish something the internet has never seen before? How can you  use research to factually back up your claims? Comprehensiveness: How can you tell  the most complete story on your topic on the internet? You could  apply this standard of performance to your project, or you may find your most successful content has different traits that make it awesome. The point is to really  define what the project will look like before you start working. In project management terminology,  a set of requirements is called a specification. So, if you follow this  guide, you will have two specifications (time-saving specification and content specification) with multiple requirements under each. If you think of more requirements, you can plan even more specifications for your projects. These two specifications are just a  minimum viable starting point to produce successful content. Define your content's standard of performance and demand it during execution.Step 4: Write  Your Stories To Focus  The Project On An Audience-Valued  Outcome Stories are how you'll  put yourself into your audience's shoes  to focus on how the project will benefit their lives instead of just creating a deliverable. Unlike traditional story-telling, these stories help define requirements of satisfaction. It's like asking yourself, "How will my audience benefit from this project?" Here's the template of how to think about stories: As an {audience type}, I want to {do something} so that {I get this value}. For example, let's say the  project you want to take on is a new e-book about content strategy that you'll publish on the Amazon store to reach a new audience. One story for your project may look like this: As a marketer, I want to learn how to  implement a better content strategy so that I can get more organized. One project  will likely have multiple stories to help you and your team understand your audience's needs. To continue the e-book example, a second story could help you write a specific chapter in the book: As a marketer, I want to learn which types of content our team should create so that we can maximize lead generation from every campaign. Since the e-book project example also requires  you and your team to create additional content, you could also use stories to define your audience's needs for a deliverable  like the  landing page where you'll promote the e-book: As a marketer, I want to  be reassured that this e-book is worth my valuable time so that  I can really reap the benefits it promises after I download the e-book. Later, when you plan, you'll break down the stories into manageable tasks you can assign to individuals on your team. Plan The Details Of Your Projects As Sprints Step 5: Break Your Stories Into  Manageable Tasks Your Marketing Team Members  Will Execute Stories are something a team  works on together, while  you assign tasks to your team members. Tasks are important because they break down a large project- which may seem difficult to even know where to start- into manageable pieces. And tasks help you divvy up the work among your team to use your resources as efficiently as possible. Let's look at an  example story again for your e-book landing page: As a marketer, I want to  be reassured that this e-book is worth my valuable time so that  I can really reap the benefits it promises after I download the e-book. To  build  a landing page that fulfills this story, you'll simply list the tasks  you need to complete in chronological order: Research landing page designs that convert. Write the landing page outline based on the  research. Write the text. Design  the wireframe. Design the landing page. Develop the landing page. Review the landing page. Publish the landing page. Promote the landing page. You get the idea- the point is to break down a story into the step-by-step process you need to complete to check this story off your sprint backlog. Smaller tasks make it easier to estimate how much time it will take to complete the story (and subsequently, the project as a whole). Step 6: Thrash Your Project Into An MVP (Minimal Viable Project) It's time to take a critical look into your stories. You want to find  where you might have frivolous uses of resources that could be used better for creating  a minimum viable project rather than an extremely polished deliverable. The real question here is this: What  stories or tasks could you cut to create a great project with the least amount of effort? You probably want your project to be the most perfect thing  in your niche, so this question might seem counterintuitive at first. However, the idea behind a minimum viable project  is to eliminate risk by helping you: Create and publish quickly Measure your success Learn to improve You can steal the idea of an MVP by cutting excess stories and tasks that  don't negatively impact your specifications.  This will save your team valuable time during execution while helping you complete your project faster. Remove excess work from your to-do list before you start your projects.Step 7: Estimate The Level Of Effort For Every Story It's one thing to give your team  a deadline to complete a project and another to know that the deadline is realistically achievable. By understanding how much time each task takes to complete (and subsequently rolling that estimation into the story), you'll be able to further understand what stories or tasks you'd like to cut from your project to complete it quicker while also being able to set practical due dates. To do this, you need to know two things first: Who will be accountable for completing each task. These are the team members who'll work together to complete the stories. The level of effort for each task. In other words, how much time will it take the person  you'll assign the task to complete it? For each task,  write down who on your team you think is best suited to complete it the fastest. Then visit with each team member  to ask how much time they'd estimate for every one of  their tasks. Step 8: Plan The Scope Of Your Project As A Sprint Backlog Scope helps you define how much work you'll complete in a certain amount of time. It's the big picture of the project. Your marketing project may  have many specifications and stories, so you may need to break the scope  into phases, which agile marketers call  sprints.  Sprints often occur in two-week bursts in which you prioritize a specific number of stories to be completed. Since you estimated the level of effort for each story- and understand how much time each individual needs to contribute- you can realistically plan your sprints and subsequently know your deadline when the project  will be 100% complete. A great way to  show your entire project scope  to your team is with a project schedule- aka sprint backlog. Step 9: Demand  That You Ship On Time You know that your project will fulfill the specifications and stories.  You also know your deadline is realistically achievable. So make sure you publish on time by preventing project thrashing- otherwise known as scope creep and last-minute changes- before you begin executing. Seth Godin has the best advice I've ever seen on this topic. Read  Linch Pin  to get the full scoop- and  for your marketing project management, start here: Set the date when you'll publish. This is when  you'll launch your project no matter what. Involve others in your initiation and planning process and write everyone's ideas down. This is important for your big wigs because, as Seth says, "This is their big chance." Show what you plan to do.  Give them the opportunity to thrash your plan before you start executing. Changes now are alright, but once your team starts executing, this  thrashing  will dramatically impact your deadline. Give them  an opportunity for one final review. Seth says, "Make sure everyone understands that this is the very last chance they have to make the project better." Revise the project blueprint into a final, comprehensive outline. Show your plan to the  big wigs and ask, "If I deliver what you approved, on budget and on time, will you ship it?" Only start executing once you get your yes. No maybes. Then deliver what you promised, thrash-free. This  simple process should prevent scope creep, last-minute modifications, and other nitpicking  with small details because you've nailed the big picture. Execute Your  Marketing Project With A Clear Content Creation Process Step 10: Assign Tasks For Your Upcoming Sprint To Your Team It's finally time for your team to start creating content for your project! You just need to assign them the tasks to complete. The best way to begin is by choosing a marketing project management tool that will help you: Manage your entire team  and easily assign them their specific tasks to complete. Assign specific deadlines for tasks to be completed on specific calendar dates. Automatically notify your team  that  you've assigned them a task to complete. Automatically remind your team as a due date for a task approaches. If you're planning a recurring project- like blog posts or social media campaigns- it's also helpful  to find a tool that helps you create your ideal workflow and save it to reuse on similar projects. Well, it just so happens that is a  marketing project management tool designed to help you collaborate with all of those things. ;) Agile product managers refer to this kind of functionality as a task board. Whether you use to  efficiently manage your process or not,  you're looking for a system to help you: See  which tasks are completed, which should be  in progress, and which are coming up. Understand which tasks are overdue that may cause you to miss your deadlines. Step 11: Communicate With A Tool That Keeps Collaboration In One Place While emails serve nicely as notifications and reminders to help your team get into the system where you manage your projects, they're not so great for managing project communication. That's where it's nice to manage your team communication around the project in the collaboration tool where you manage everything else. There are a few qualifications to make this work for your project: Avoid email to manage your project communication. Email forwards and strings  can miss some replies to sender only, which can cause team members to miss critical information on your projects. Agree as a team  to communicate consistently with the same tools for your specific purpose. This will help you maintain  one version of the truth for all project communication to help the team collaborate more efficiently. Keep your comments, notes, and progress reports in  the same tool where you manage your task board or workflow. This is especially important if you manage multiple projects at once. You can rock that advice with  nearly any  project management tool, but there's one designed to help marketers like you manage their projects better.  It's *ah hem* . Monitor And Control Your Project To Meet Your Deadlines Monitoring and controlling happens at the same time as your team executes the project. Step 12: Hold Daily Scrum Meetings To  Monitor Your Progress Scrum is a daily meeting everyone working in a current sprint attends. These informal touch points are most effective with small teams who are collaborating on completing a story together. You'll lead the touch point  with a simple itinerary with everyone sharing: What they did yesterday to make progress on your sprint. What they're going to do today for your sprint. Any roadblocks that may prevent them from executing. This helps your team stay accountable while giving them the chance to ask for help as needed. As the project manager, it's your job to proactively prevent those roadblocks from happening if you can. Otherwise, it's now your job to react and  remove the obstacles from your team's ability to execute. At each daily scrum, end the touch point by asking, "Who has roadblocks that are already or might prevent you  from executing?" Sometimes, this is when someone will speak up, even after they've already shared their progress reports. Step 13: Manage Your Burn Chart To Estimate How Much Work Is Left In Your Project Your project burn chart is a  graph that  compares your completed work to how many sprints are remaining in the project's scope. Another way to visualize  this is to analyze your percentage of tasks completed. Your marketing calendar shows a handy percentage completion rate for your project: This practice- combined with reviewing which tasks should have been completed in the past but have not been checked off your task board- will help you  keep team members accountable for completing their work and will keep your project on tack to hit your deadline. Agile product management processes often suggest that you  spell out  the definition of done for your project to help the entire team understand when the project is complete. The percentage completion rate is an excellent way to explain this to your team: A  story  is done when you  complete 100% of your tasks. A sprint is done when  you complete 100% of the tasks for the stories that make up the sprint. And a project is done when you complete 100% of the tasks for all of the stories within the sprints that make up the project. Step 14: Fail Fast To  Get Back On Track ASAP Even the best project managers hit snags that  take their team's focus away from the tasks and stories that will fulfill their project's specifications. Those are moments when you, as a project manager, need to step in immediately to get your project back on track. You can do that by identifying whom on your team  needs a guiding hand, and  asking them four simple questions: What happened? Why did this happen? How can we make sure this doesn't happen again? How can we get this project back on track? These questions help your team member identify the issue and the method to solve the problem now and in the future.  You just helped them self-correct! Step 15: Host Sprint Reviews To Celebrate Your Accomplishments Toward Project  Close-Out While you took Seth Godin's advice on getting approval to ship your project on time no matter what, your stakeholders probably want to see the progress you're making as the project continues. That's  exactly what sprint reviews are for. Schedule a half hour touch point at the end of every sprint to review  the stories  you've completed. Gather feedback from those who need to know what's going on. Just remember that you're employing Eric Ries' theory on the minimum viable project. That means you should document what your big wigs are saying, but that will not impact your upcoming sprints  or modify your deadlines because they've already signed off for approval. Later, you can plan the notes you take in this meeting as a post-project sprint to button up the outstanding items after you publish if necessary. However, these modifications aren't in scope for your project now, so you should not change your direction. Make this review fun for everyone- it's a celebration of accumulated hard work with 100% of your tasks done for an entire sprint! Close Your Marketing Project And Move On To The Next Step 16: Host A Retro To Learn From Your Success Your project is done when 100% of the tasks within the  stories that make up your sprints are complete.  Ship it now! There's just one thing left to do... and that's to learn how to improve your  marketing project management process before you initiate your next project. Traditional project management often calls for a post implementation review. It's a meeting where you invite your team to ask them three simple questions: What went well? What went wrong? What could we improve for the next project? Agile product management follows a similar approach, calling their post-project touch point a retrospective. The goal is the same- - but the questions you ask in the meeting vary slightly: What should we start doing? What should we stop doing? What should we continue doing? Combine those two sets of questions together for a 30-minute meeting, and you'll leave with dozens of lessons learned that will help you improve your marketing project management process next time. What Is Marketing Project Management (For The Sake Of This Post)? The traditional project management method is split into phases: Initiate:  What is the scope of what you'll create? Plan:  How will you create your content  and with what resources? Execute:  Create your content. Monitor and control:  Identify and remove any  roadblocks that are preventing you from executing. Close:  Get approval, publish, and review. That is the approach  traditional project managers learn about as they get started. However, there's a way to layer in another proven project management method to help you move through the phases  even faster.  It's called agile product  management. Ever wonder what agile marketing was? Now I know. This process is how developers typically approach creating software (like your beloved  project management platform). Agile product  management helps developers complete lots of work in  short bursts  of time by providing intense focus and removing obstacles that might  cause them to miss deadlines. It's like asking yourself, "How will my audience benefit from this project?" Your marketing calendar shows a handy percentage completion rate for your project: This practice- combined with reviewing which tasks should have been completed in the past but have not been checked off your task board- will help you  keep team members accountable for completing their work and will keep your project on tack to hit your deadline.
